In 1244, at the infamous fortress of Montségur in southwestern France, Christian Inquisitors massacred the last vestige of a heresy known as Mithraism, once the dominant religion of the Roman Empire. But was the heresy in fact destroyed? In today’s New York City, reporter Tess Drake discovers a mysterious altar in the apartment of a friend whose charred body was discovered in a nearby park. The altar (a version of it exists in the British Museum) depicts a man astride a bull, plunging a knife into its neck while a dog, a scorpion, and a snake drink the blood. The meaning of that altar propels Tess on a furious hunt for the truth about what happened to her friend, a labyrinth of intrigue and danger that leads to the highest levels of power as well as to the depths of a secret cave in Spain.

“A mega-thriller by any standard”

—Associated Press

“David Morrell is, to me, the finest thriller writer living today, bar none.”

—Steve Berry, New York Times bestselling author of The Jefferson Key

“A master storyteller”

—James Rollins, New York Times bestselling author of The Devil Colony

The Covenant of the Flame eBook David Morrell

I downloaded this book on my Kindel with the same enthusiasm that I normally have with a David Morrell book. I was quickly dissapointed after reading the first few chapters. The dialog throughout the book was juvenile and was something I would expect from a new aspiring author. I found the lefty political undertheem about saving the planet annoying because it was exaggerated kept popping up over and over and over. The plot was generally boring and repetitive. It seemed that the main character would move to a new locaton just to have the exact same thing happen again and a again. The entire experience felt extreemly drawn out. the final 1/4 of the book was ok but not worth the forced reading to get to that point. I found myself putting the book down in foavor of other activities, and forcing myself to read occasionally for the sake of finishing the book so I could start someting else. The only thing I enjoyed about this book was the historical mystery aspect brought by exploring Mithriasm. Over all I was let down by Morrell in this book as I am a huge Morrell fan. It pains me to call this a flop, but it is definatly a flop and the first flop I have experienced from Morrell.

The Covenant of the Flame eBook David Morrell Reviews

The book overall is good. However, the begging and some motivation on the actors are not believable. At the end it books gets better.
This is a very interesting book. I am a Bible believing Baptist so this ancient belief is not something I know anything about. Is it just a book or is it history.
Every book that I've read of David Morrell has been stellar. Covenant of the Flame is no exception. Fast-paced, exciting.
excellent.very much enjoy his plots
It was a longread not his best by my judgement but never the less a lot of fictionlised fact. I will follow up by reading additional books which are referenced in this novel so by that I can better understand the story behing the story - may not a ppeal to many.
David as always provides excellent details so that the context resonate with the reader to appreciate background and the under bridge of historical context within the theme of the story. He perhaps inadvertently defend mother earth and the preservation of her children; all biological specimens!
Loved many of his other books. This was good too.
